Villa Montessori Preschool Leesburg Announces New Five Star Review

Villa Montessori Preschool Leesburg has announced with pride that they have recently received another five star review from a satisfied parent who noticed how well her first and only daughter was learning. The preschool has more than 12 years of integrating Montessori and Reggio and offers programs for toddlers or 18 months to 6 years of age. They are centrally located in Leesburg and welcome families not just from Leesburg, but also from neighboring areas, such as Round Hill, Purcellville, Paeonian Springs, Hamilton, Lovettsville, Lansdowne, Ashburn, Lucketts, Sterling, Waterford, South Riding, and Brambleton. In the review, Lainey H-C said, “We loved having our daughter at Villa Montessori! It was very important to my husband and I that she went to an accredited Montessori institution. She started at Villa when she was 19 months (when the school opened) and with her being my first (and only) child, needless to say I was a nervous wreck leaving her that first day of school! The entire Villa family made me feel so comfortable and were amazing with her, I knew we were in the right place. She moved up to the two year old class and eventually to the three-five year olds. We were so pleased with how much she was learning to get her ready for kindergarten and also the everyday life skills she acquired. Villa Montessori also made sure to teach her the importance of community, whether it be locally or across the sea. We love the Villa family and are forever grateful for playing such an important role in our daughter’s life.”

Ms. Kimberly, the School Director for Villa Montessori Preschool Leesburg, says, "We are both grateful and proud to receive such kind words from parents like Lainey. This serves to further motivate us to continue to provide the best service possible." At the Villa Montessori, the teachers do not have the same role that they have in the traditional classroom setting. Instead, they serve as guides for the children, showing to them the different materials from which the young children are able to learn more regarding their current interests. As such, the children are encouraged to focus on what interests them and discover new things about them. Lessons are also conducted but the goal is to let the students use the auto-didactic or self-correcting materials in the Montessori classroom and discover information on their own.

The Montessori approach was first introduced by Dr. Maria Montessori. In this method, while lessons are provided, the students are allowed to discover the answers to the questions they have regarding the topics that interest them. At Villa Montessori, this method is also integrated with the Reggio Emilia method for early childhood education. This is specifically aimed at strengthening the children’s higher critical thinking skills. Young children are therefore able to come up with the right questions that they need to ask in order to learn certain necessary principles. This is drastically different from the conventional way of expecting students to memorize the desired information. The benefit of the system is that young children are able to develop their creativity and critical thinking skills.

In Reggio, the teachers play the role of collaborators and co-learners with the young students. What they do is to discover the specific interests of the children and encourage them to explore those interests. The classroom environment also serves as a teacher by providing the materials that the children can use to further develop their interests. Thus, the shelves of the classrooms at this preschool are loaded with hands-on projects that children can pursue in order to enhance their knowledge regarding certain topics of interest to them.
